"To love means never to be afraid of the windstorms of life; should you shield the canyons from the windstorms, you would never see the beauty of the carvings." Elisabeth Kubler-Ross <- Someone (thank you!) said this reminded me of them the moment they came across(t) it. Rar, I feel special.

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/cc/cc20010420a <- For the conventioners amongst you.

half drow / half shadow dragon : that's like...half death, with a side of pain <- Bri upon hearing about an idea for a character...

"Grief is a sweet wine... If you drink but a little, you are tempted to drink more, and things are never improved by overindulging in either."

"[Kabbalah] helps you confront your fears. LIke if a girl borrowed my clothes and never gave them back, and I saw her wearing them months later, I would confront her." -- Paris Hilton <- This is not how religion is meant to fortify, is it? :)

"That man can destroy life is just as miraculous a feat as that he can create it, for life is the miracle, the inexplicable. In the act of destruction, man sets himself above life; he transcends himself as a creature. Thus, the ultimate choice for a man, inasmuch as he is driven to transcend himself, is to create or to destroy, to love or to hate."

In a world beset by ignorance and poverty and suffering, a world wracked with wars and terror attacks and ethnic strife of every kind, it seems crazy to be twisting ourselves into knots over the desire of good men and women to transcend the prison of themselves and affirm their love for another by marrying.

It's been over a month since I wrote in here and quite frankly, as you can imagine, many of the things I wanted to say have long since flown away. Biggest update from the last entry is that because of an unexepected payout from a work benefit I didn't know I had (after 1500 hours I get the equivalent of 2 weeks payed at my average salary over that time period.) that made one check = 3, I got the rest of my computer. In the end, I payed about 400 to 500 or so more dollars than I had planned for the computer, but I'm not going to complain. For those who care, these are the P4, 2.8ghz, 800fsb. 1gig ram, 120gig hd (sata!), a cd-rw/dvd drive, 19" monitor, 5.1 surround sound speakers, and a geforce fx 5900XT video card. If I was up to it, I could link to all the stuff online, but I don't care that much. But I can link to the case picture because it's cool. It occasionally runs a bit hot because I can't dissipate the heat in the cubby its in, but I'm working on that, though I think maybe the solution I have now isn't so bad.

Have already beat myst3 on it. Good game. Pretty. Didn't take me as long as Riven did. :P Puzzle style was different, mostly. Lots of trial and error easily offset by careful observational tactics. Not the buildable need to have each piece like lego blocks.

I know there's been more in my life other than the computer though...had a few rough spots that I think I've gotten through with the lady. Cleaned up the Christmas tree today, that was fun let me tell you. Applied for a couple of jobs, going to apply for at least two more in the soon future. That reminds me. Nope, couldn't find anything intelligent. If anyone out there has any clue wtf the GS (goverment service?) pay scale is about, I'd appreciate knowing it. =)

Feels kinda weird in my apartment without the tree. So much roomier. Right now, where once a tree stood there lies the Bri, asleep. Oh. A note: There is something immensely sexy about a woman whose not had a shower, her hair sloppily but securely up, wearing those small almost-not there shorts, a white strappy shirt that almost might as well not be there, and the occasional windbreaker when she goes outside, cleaning. It made for an immensely satisfying afternoon.

Things to do on this computer, get MS office from IPFW for cheap, get mmjb on here...

Sorry, stream of thought. Didn't get dishes done today, but oh well. A step in the right direction is a good step.

Found out we can't get Bri's insurance checks cashed up here even if we wanted to. Bank won't cash check made out to her -and- a bank. She needs to cash it at the bank. Which happens to be IN GA. Good thing we're going there soon. What a stupid waste.

Do you know how nice it is to have a nice computer? One that takes a look at morrowind and says, 'Yes?' Ah. Is so nice. I can buy games for it and waste time and joy! Left Q2 at the g'rents house so that when I do laundry I can amuse myself there. I forgot how much harder the game was on hard, actually.

Had fun at RP tonight. Met a neat new person, much of amusement was said and occured. "Is your ass naturally this smooth, or do you shave?" And Eric exudes heat. I never noticed before.

I guess I just miss my little journal, tis why I'm blithering things as I talk. I'm also lonely. My schedule can be such a pain sometimes and I get lonely easy. Also doesn't help that the times I can be online is not when anyone else can. :P

Random for those who pay attention: The new journal style that's out, haven...I like it. I might see how neat it is.

That's all the blithering for tonight folks. Not much in the way of good psycholigical meat...just a note to let people know I'm alive and well, glad to be here.

P.S. I hate colds.

nice to have you back.

the gs pay scale is just the general one used for most federal employees. your job is assigned a grade (1-15) and a step (1-10) within that grade, plus you get a locality adjustment if you live in certain places in the country (like dc, in my case, because it costs more to live here). raises go by step, and after a certain point (maybe gs-12) the raises become competitive. more specifics: http://www.opm.gov/oca/04tables/indexGS.asp

i'm not on the gs scale, though. a couple months before i started work they implemented the new db scale for engineers. nobody seems to have a clue what that's all about. i've got a vague idea what payband in the gs scale i am, but that's just from comparing my base pay to their scales.

hope that helps.

The job that I got forward to me is all weird, and I was trying to figure it out. What I can understand is that they want to pay anywhere between 46k and 67k for the job depending on GS9 or GS11, and experiences equivalent/education.

So I was trying to figure out what that means, expect I realize now that it doesn't necessarily mean anything! Because I got introduced to the idea of payscales from the miliatry, those pay scales come with rankings and rankings imply experience. :P (eeh! Except that they say that gs9 is masters, and gs11 is phd!!)

Anyways, thanks. I appreciate that link. Is informative.

the masters and phd thing deals with starting pay. i have a masters but it's very likely i will progress past a gs11 (equivalent, of course) during my career.

Yeees, but what do you think are my chances without a masters or a phd of getting hired are? *pouts*
melydia From: melydia Date: March 6th, 2004 09:47 am (UTC) (Link)
depends on where you're applying and what you'll be doing. most of the people i work with did not have more than a bachelors when they started.

Hrm. Well, that site you sent me also led to a place that listed some other stuff and it said something different about experience requirements. So I'll take that under advisement. There are a *lot* of goverment jobs, my god. ;)

You are a gem, you know this? Sparkly and everything!
