In case anyone wants to know, iptables sucks. ;P

Okay, so it doesn't. It has more to do with the <stupid>user</stupid>.

I somehow managed to hose my samba rules and my ventrilo rules on a restart that was to make ventrilo be a daemon.

And I just don't care enough at this very moment to fix it. At least now I now why the daemon wasn't 'working'...

WTB iptables and selinux knowledge?

You know what's funny...

Jack and Matt have been over here putting together a Linux fileserver for our apartment (they're going to do one for Matt's apartment, too, I believe), and they've been having a hell of a time configuring that thing. If it wasn't for that, I never would have known what you were talking about when you said 'samba'. I would have thought you were talking about the dance.

I miss you, Jefe!

Dance with me, woman.

Mine works, except when I occasionally do stupid things. =)

If ever I can be assistance, let me know.

Nothing Better...

...than being so completely confused by an lj post that the thing might as well have been written in a different language!

Even if I talk in geek. iptables = linux defacto firewall. samba = filesharing software that interfaces windows and linux. ventrilo = Voice Over IP software for communication between people! daemon = software that runs 'in the background' and 'all the time'. A common 'daemon' you use without knowing it is a webserver. ;) Rules that broke were the rules of my firewall that let all those other things do what they needed to do. So the daemon was working, but the firewall wasn't letting traffic to it.

Selinux = security software.

Any less geeky? ;)

Hell no! But at least I understand all the geek-speak now. ;)

When are you going to come and steal me away from here? I am so ready for a vacation, but I dunno what more I can offer than random kisses. ;)
